Here is a bit about me and the things I love most, told through my three favorite photographs, plus one mandatory photo of myself…
About me…
Photography is my passion and my addiction! Nothing can describe the love I feel when I pick up my camera, attach just the right lens, look through the viewfinder, adjust the setting just so, and compose the perfect picture and memory of that single moment.
In addition to photography, here are the things that I love most:
~ My husband Rory (more about him in a bit) and our family and friends. I am incredibly lucky and grateful to have the most loving and supportive family and such wonderful friends.
~ New England Patriots… I love them A LOT and have watched every game in the same #12 jersey I have owned since 2001. I have likely lost a few months or years of my life from all of the cheering and worrying I have done.
~ Traveling to new places and returning to my favorite spots. My next five big trips (order still tbd): Serengeti in Tanzania, Australia, Switzerland, Alaska, and Japan.
~ Cooking, but I enjoy eating even more. My favorite food: eggs benedict, french onion soup, steak, sushi, beef bourguignon, paella, hazelnut gelato, red velvet cupcakes, and churros dipped in chocolate.
Rory posing at museum in Paris…
I LOVE and ADORE my husband! He is the most wonderful person I could have found to be my best friend and companion for the rest of my life. I love how much we make each other laugh and one of my favorite things is making him pose for funny pictures when I am “inspired.” We have many such photos, and perhaps one day I will devote a whole blog post to the plethora of pictures that I have collected over the years. This one on the right is one of my absolute favorites and always makes me laugh.
Flora and Rory posing in front of the “Flory” shop…
Within a few months of dating, a friend of ours was asking us a question and accidentally addressed us as “Flory” instead of “Flora and Rory”. Needless to say, this caught on very quickly! A year later, Rory and I were traveling in Barcelona and walking the side streets off of La Rambla, when we stumbled upon this shop called “Flory”. It was closed, and it being our last night in Spain, we left with no idea what lay behind that graffiti covered metal door. Five years later when Rory and I went to Barcelona again, we searched out this place, but couldn’t find it. We had just given up and were walking back to the main street, when we happened to stumble upon it…but again it was closed. When we came back the next day, we finally discovered what diverse collection of merchandise Flory was selling – various wooden and glass trinkets, an assortment of bongs, hippie clothes, and an eclectic mix of odds and ends. We bought a few small carved wooden birds to scatter around our apartment (probably the only normal thing we could buy to put in our very normal apartment) and took some pictures as proof that Flory had found Flory!
One of my very first pictures…
Apologies for the poor (and unprofessional) quality of this last picture, since it was scanned to digital at a CVS kiosk after collecting dust in it’s 4x6 frame for the past 14 years. This picture was the focus of my “My first blog post, part one”, so I won’t bore you and repeat the full story behind it again. But in the hopes that a few months or years have passed, and that my first blog post is now buried among more exciting posts and beautiful photos, I’ll give the quick summary of why this picture is here. This was one of the first pictures that I took, and it has been egging me on to pursue photography ever since I shot it with a yellow disposable camera in the summer of 1997 while I was in high school and doing a summer abroad at Oxford University.
